Switch logic: This is a normally closed float switch. At low water, the circuit is closed and the electromagnet holds the gate shut. At high water, the float presses the switch and opens the circuit, allowing the springs to lift the gate.

Step-by-step operation

Water enters the tank while the sliding gate is closed.
The rising water lifts the float and its push rod.
At the high level, the float presses the normally closed switch and opens the electrical circuit.
Current stops, so the coil and iron core stop acting as an electromagnet.
The return springs lift the iron armature and sliding gate.
The open gate lets water flow through the outlet, so the water level falls.
At the low level, the float releases the switch and the circuit closes again.
The electromagnet turns on, pulls the gate down and stops the outlet flow. The tank begins filling again.
